Nairobi senator Mike Sonko on Monday 2nd September, 2013, gave back a 3.8 acre piece of land valued at Sh 9 million in Kwale County after it was revealed that it was grabbed and sold to him.

The beach plot sitting at Kinodo Ramisi was sold to Sonko on March 26th by a member of parliament,Omar Zonga.

"The land was sold to me by MP Omar Zonga. I have decided to surrender it back to the government so that it can be given to locals", Sonko said while presenting the title deed of the piece of land to Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu.

At the same time, Sonko called on the government to revoke the Kinodo Settlement Scheme and be given to squatters.

Meanwhile, Ngilu confirmed that there have been irregularities in land allocations especially in Kwale County but moved to assure locals that the Jubilee government under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta is keen to resolve the land problem at the coast.

She also added said the government will ruthlessly deal land grabbers.
