The rivalry between the two teachers unions, Knut and Kuppet, has been taken a notch higher with Knut claiming that it has recruited more 20,000 Kuppet members.

While urging all teachers to register with Knut, Mr. Sossion, the chairman of the Kenya National Union of Teachers, boasted of benefiting from the massive exodus that has hit their rival, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers.

Mr. Sossion said teachers will not go back to class until the government honors  the 1997 teachers pay deal in full.

This comes even as the TSC withdraws the contempt of court charges it had pressed against the Knut officials.
