
The wreckage of a school bus that overturned in Kisii killing 12 people.
Nine studets and three teachers lost their lives, on Wednesday 10th July, when a school bus they were travelling in from Itumbe to Nyamache in Kisii lost control and overturned.
According to eye witnesses, the bus lost control and rolled several times.
The public which had gathered in the scene of the accident was still trying to rescue survivors late into the night some of whom were rushed to the Kisii level five hospital.
Meanwhile, president Uhuru Kenyatta instructed the Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku, to make sure that the survivors of the accident have been airlifted to Nairobi, Kenyatta National Hospital, for more treatment. The president also called for full implementation of the traffic rules.
"The president has ordered the airlifting of the students from Kisii to Nairobi. Mr Lenku should liaise with Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia to ensure the victims are taken care off," said Mr Kimemia, Secretary to the Cabinet.
Mr. Kimemia said the government will meet all the bills.
On the other hand, the government pledged to assist the bereaved families.
