The Kenya Pipeline Company, which is a state corporation has been accused of nepotism with its senior managers influencing the employment of their blood relatives.
Confessing to the parliamentary committee on energy, the former KPC managing Director, Salest Kilinda said that he influenced the employment of his two sons and a brother.
“When people have to be taken through the interviewing process, it is difficult to turn down a relative yet they are qualified and have met all the requirements of the interviewing panel.” Kilinda said.
The committee chaired by Kigumo mp Jamleck Kamau heard that there are also several relatives to various managers who are still working in the company.
The committee was also told that senior managers at KPC took advantage of a loophole in the company's policies whereby a person can be taken in as a casual but be employed on permanent basis after some assessment.
Apart from the embattled former MD Salest Kilinda, the company's human resource manager Miss Rose Osiako also admitted to employing her daughter.
Mr. Samuel Odoyo, KPC's finance manager is also said to have employed his sister.
During the hearing, the committee was informed that the board chairman of the KPC, Samuel Maluki and chief human resource manager Rose Manji are the only people who have not employed their relatives.
