CITI HOPA buses set to be withdrawn from Nairobi for colluding with gangsters to rob passengers

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. David Kimaiyo, has revealed that the CITI HOPA buses will be withfrawn from all Nairobi routes for what he termed as 'rising carjackings associated with the buses'.

According to the statement he posted on his official Facebook account on Saturday, Mr. Kimaiyo sent a warning to all commuters against using the CITI HOPA buses saying they risk being robbed.

He observed that quite a number of CITI HOPA buses have been carjacked and its drivers and conductors are being suspected for colluding with the thugs to rob their passengers.

"CITI HOPA will be withdrawn from the roads because they carry at least two criminals in the morning and evening, thus commuters are hijacked and robbed", said the Inspector General.

This comes after a CITI HOPA bus was on Thursday, full of passengers left nairobi city centre for Buruburu only to becarjarked and all its passengers robbed. It is said that the bus stopped along Jogoo road and picked seven men who turned out to be robbers. After the incident they damped the passengers at Githogoro slums.

However, CITI HOPA Managing Director Mr. Githaiga Weru has since denied these claims.
