The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission through its Disputes Resolution Committee sitting at the Milimani Law courts, on Thursday, summoned Kethi Kilonzo over petitions challenging her registration as a voter.

Miss Kethi is expected to face the IEBC after three voters from Makueni and jubilee filed petitions wanting to block her from running for the Makueni senatorial seat on grounds that she is not a registered voters.

The Makueni by election is set to be held on  July 22nd and the public has up to July 11th to forward any complaint regarding her eligibility to take part in that by election.

Part of the petition filed by the three voters reads, "The tribunal be pleased to declare that the 1st respondent (Kethi) in the Makueni County Senatorial by-election scheduled for July 22, 2013 by virtue of not being a duly registered voter at the relevant time and thus disqualified under section 24 (1) (a) of the Elections Act"

Meanwhile, the Wiper Democratic movement is seeking to nullify Phillip Kaloki's candidature, also a candidate in the same race, on the basis that he is still a member of the party and therefore should not be allowed to vie on another party.

The Dispute Resolution Committee chairman, Mr. Thomas Letangule, said that should they, for any reasons fail to honor the summons, the proceedings will still go on and the petitions heard in their absence.

Miss Kilonzo has since downplayed the allegations.

The Makueni Senatorial seat fell vacant after the death of its first senator, the late Mutula Kilonzo.
