It is now emerging that CORD is yet to suffer another blow since Wetangula may not be eligible to vie during the by election following the ruling by High Court Judge Francis Gikonyo. The court nullified Wetangula's election on grounds of bribery, intimidation and double registration during the March 4th election.
The court also found Wetangula guilty of committing an election offence contrary to the Elections Act.
The Act states; "A person who is convicted of an election offence or who is reported guilty of an election offence by the Election Court shall not be qualified to be nominated for election as an elected member of the National Assembly/Senate, during the remainder of the life of that parliament following his conviction or, as the case may be, following the report"
The High Court slapped Wetangula with a 1 million shillings, which he paid, for bribing voters during the general election.
According to the IEBC, Wetangula is now ineligible to run in any election for a period of the next five years. A senior official at the IEBC said they will disqualify Wetangula from running in the by election on grounds of election malpractices.
All this is happening as word has it that Musikari Kombo who filed the petition, is said to be stepping down for Eugine Wamalwa in order to give CORD a run for their money in the by election.
