The four were killed while on their way home from Musa mosque when the assailants sprayed their car with bullets along the Mombasa-Malindi highway. Only one of the five occupants in that vehicle, Salim Aboud, survived the attack.
He had to play dead to save his life.
According to Salim, they just finished preaching at the mosque and they were heading home when a number of assailants on foot started sparying their car with bullets until it veered off the road instantly killing the four.
"We have finished them," Mr Salim Aboud heard them say as he played dead. The gunmen then sped off in a Mark X.
Muslim clerics who arrived at the scene including sheikh Abubakar Sherrif alias Makaburi, pointed fingers at the Anti Terrorism Police Unit.
"The ATPU were here, why have they run way? What are we going to do next and why are they killing us? We have not killed any one but the police are killing innocent Muslims," Mr Makaburi lamemted.
"This actions are being led by Americans and Israelis, Sheikh Ibrahim was not at Westgate during the attack. Western governments do not want Muslims to talk about Jihad. It is part and parcel of Islam, kill us all," he said.
The incident is said to have happened about half a kilometer from Bamburi police post.
